I have been trying to escape all along. How could I not know that I’ve been trapped?

I have a very long memory when it comes to the various characters who have trapped me. Hind sight is 20/20 and all those peculiar events are starting to make a lot of sense now. The R family certainly has placed an inordinate number of their plants in the Hamptons!
