Let’s look at Moon Square Saturn

July 12, 2022

In my stream series, I discuss how astrology is a great way to learn our strengths and weaknesses. I’m deeply studying a few charts to find out how much we can learn from this discipline.

Since I have discussed so much about my origins, we can see if there is a match up between what the chart is saying and my own circumstances. My life has been awash with themes of Saturn - frustrations, lack of support in my youth, poor self esteem, blocks and more blocks but Saturn has also gifted me with a determination which even I find surprising. What can we expect from Saturn square Moon?

Males and females with this Moon position may be susceptible to falling into certain self-defeating patterns of behavior. They can struggle with habits that hinder them or find that they are often attracted to people who are not good for them. Saturn isn't particularly comfortable in homey Cancer, which can make you feel uneasy.

Just as the Crab goes into its shell for protection, such is the impulse of Cancer when Saturn is in town. Use that inner focus to engage in some self-analysis (or some self-care!) during this time. You can learn important things about your childhood patterns that might be the key to unlocking a happier you. With time and reflection, it will be possible to heal those deep-seated wounds that have been holding you back for years. Negative Traits

While other Cancer placements love the past, Saturn in Cancer regrets it. They obsess over not reliving mistakes or moments. Ironically, this aversion to yesteryear can land them in a loop where they recreate precisely what they fear. Therefore, Saturn's lesson here is to heal their past selves to build a more secure future.

As much as they relish it, Cancer Saturn's position as head of family is a stressful one. Heavy is the head after all. In taking this role, Saturn in Cancer may make the mistake of casting their own dreams aside for the benefit of their nearest and dearest, which, naturally, can lead to a life unlived.

Conclusion

Wherever Saturn goes, it brings with it a sense of responsibility. Saturn in Cancer is no exception. Perhaps it's for that reason that Cancer's placement here seems a little more emotionally in their shell than is typically associated with the sign. To borrow a line from the Beatles, "You've got to hide your love away," and Cancer Saturn does this with ease.

So, where Cancer Sun might coddle, Saturn in Cancer demands better behavior. However, the primary motivation remains the same: the safety and stability of their loved ones. In this way, tough love is emphasized with this placement, as these natives understand that love must sometimes be unkind to be kind.

You've probably had to toughen up while growing up. You likely assumed authority and responsibilities for others while undergoing trying times. There wasn't much time for niceties or vulnerability. This perhaps makes it difficult for you to be comfortable showing more of your softer and gentler side. There's no doubt you have those sides, but you fear that others might take advantage of you if they knew how to play on them. You're not entirely wrong; That will be true with some people. Not everyone needs to be in your inner circle, especially if they're more in your work world. But there's a fine line between excluding others for sensible reasons, past and present, and denying yourself love, comfort, and affection. You needn't go your whole life, even intermittently, without having close and dear ones whom you can trust with your heart.

Saturn Aspects

Saturn rules our conditioning or the way we were taught and brought up in the world. It is associated with restriction and limitation but with this it brings structure and meaning to the world and our lives. It reminds us of our boundaries, responsibilities and commitments. It is often associated with a father or authority figures. Saturns lessons actually help us to grow. In you chart the position of Saturn reveals your limitations, fears and sense of responsibility.

Limitations and restrictions may occur on opportunities and experiences, often created by unresolved emotional patterns. The source of these may be sentimental attachments to the past, to memories, to experiences, and to earlier relationships.
You find it difficult to break free from the past; and previous experiences will influence present choices and attitudes. You may have grown up with a negative self-image, one which lessens self-confidence and also shapes restrictive worldviews. This may come from unsettling and disturbing childhood experiences. Perhaps you put up protective barriers to defend vulnerable feelings from damage; you may have believed you were not loved by your parents, or you were left with just one parent through separation, divorce, or death. Issues of emotional dependency may have grown, and a mother-or father-complex formed, making it difficult to cut the parental umbilical cord when you became an adult.
You tend toward pessimistic attitudes, linked to a reduced physical vitality, emotional moodiness, melancholic dissatisfaction, and depression. Lacking self-confidence and perhaps seeing the world as a harsh, loveless place, you may feel bitter and cynical, preferring isolation from relationship intimacy. Family ties bind you.
This could suggest that you are older than most when you leave home to become independent; or you could have the onerous duty of caring for an elderly parent. Your family life may turn into an imprisoning environment in some way, perhaps through children, economic hardship, or social isolation. You maintain tensions and frustrations by refusing to release behavior patterns formed during childhood and within your parental relationship. It is your choice, if you wish, to continue limiting your life, but it is not inevitable; limitations are only imaginary parameters which we draw around ourselves as a barrier; they can be erased or expanded.
Your creativity is blocked by emotional repression. If you dissolve the barrier and redirect the energies toward positive and constructive channels, then much could be achieved. Finding additional interests and stimulation would be beneficial, showing that the world has much to offer if you open to its riches. Becoming involved with children could reveal new ways to see things; their enthusiasms and sense of wonder could be transmitted to you.
With contemporary self-help techniques, visualization, meditation, affirmation, and the availability of numerous ways to release blocked energies, you can transform your life to face the future with positivity and optimism. Once freed from past restrictions, you can uncover your latent potential.

Moon Square Saturn Natal

Being born with the moon in a square aspect with Saturn, you have a driven and determined personality who can become relentless in pursuit of aspirations. You can be hard on yourself as well as hard on others for not measuring up to your expectations of optimal performance, and so you will need to learn how to cultivate self-acceptance as well as acceptance for the shortcomings of those you are in relationship with. You may have had a harsh authority figure in your life from an early age, whether it came in the form of a strict and overbearing parent or stern teacher who could be critical of your results. Ultimately, you have an important lesson to learn in being able to claim your own inner authority while at the same time allowing others to be able to claim their inner authority in relationship with you. As you mature and learn how to find emotional security within yourself, you will no longer act from a place of fear and anxiety and instead be able to assert yourself securely in a responsible manner.
