Our mock trial against the English Government, et al (of 200 years ago) Testimony Day 11, Marchand

When the agent of the English government stole Napoleon’s best friend on St. Helena, Las Cases, they also stole his papers.

Napoleon asked his guys what he was quoted as saying about this agent in their various memoirs. They said Napoleon was quoted calling the agent a “Sicilian Thug” .

Napoleon says, “good”.

He was SO HURT she didn’t insist on following him to St. Helena but she viewed him as a cheater and she didn’t want to be with a cheater. Instead she raised her son alone to vindicate him.

His most cherished possession on St. Helena was the diamond necklace that he had given her that she gave back to him. He has given the women around him diamond jewelry so he could get away with lavishing her with diamond gifts.

From her memoirs

As I was masked I received after our performance quantities of compliments which the fact that I was disguised permitted people to make me.

A domino whom I recognized spoke to me and said, “How dazzling you are! One cannot look at you.”

”I should make a good prize, should not I, with all the diamonds I have on?”

“You know very well“, he replied, “that the most beautiful diamond of all, the diamond that is simply priceless, is the one hidden under all the rest.”
