Politicians keep doing this.
It always makes me think “reverse psychology”, divide and conquer. Holding a foreign country up as superior and special like this would logically provoke a nation’s constituents. This would be unlikely to occur in a real democracy. Why do they keep doing this? Who benefits?

First they say something bad and then they say they’re the ones who should be trusted to fix it.
Then they demand more power. It’s the English government way. This article shows their style here.
