Memoirs of Lavalette about Napoleon, 71-80

Lavalette eavesdropped on ALEXANDRE DE BEAUHARNAIS (Josephine’s first husband) and relays what de Beauharnais said when the Jacobins were about to send an innocent man to his death.

This Series is about exposing the Truth concerning Napoleon. We are looking for the congruent story across different Napoleon Memoirs. The Napoleon story overview is here.

The beginning of the Memoir we are currently reading can be found here.

The Caulaincourt Memoir is here.

The Marchand Memoir is here.

The Hortense Bonaparte Memoir is here.

All writers of these memoirs are considered exceptionally honest. All essentially lived with Napoleon. You will see that Napoleon is the same person in all of these accounts. I’m doing this because I believe this is important and that our whole present world-in-crisis comes out of this True story.

To corroborate our narrative from the perspective of our opponents, I offer the reader Tolstoy’s War and Peace here.

Unfamiliar words in tonight’s memoir reading.

I’m thrilled with the present book by Lavalette. All I knew about Lavalette was:

1.  He never betrayed Napoleon.

2. Hortense’s cousin did not want to marry him but over time, Emilie de Beauharnais came to appreciate him.

The weird thing is that Émilie wanted to marry Louis Bonaparte and Hortense ended up in a marriage with Louis - which turned into a disaster.

Here below are definitions that will help make these memoirs easier to follow.
